Born on July 10, 1942, in Kankipadu, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, Kota Srinivasa Rao hailed from a cultured family. His father was a respected doctor. Before entering cinema, Kota earned a Bachelor of Science degree and briefly worked as a bank employee with the State Bank of India. However, his passion for acting, nurtured through theatre, eventually led him to the silver screen.

Kota made his cinematic debut in 1978 with Pranam Khareedu, a film that also marked the debut of megastar Chiranjeevi. From there, he never looked back. Known for his commanding voice and distinctive dialogue delivery, Kota delivered stellar performances across genres:


Villainous Roles: He gained fame for portraying intense antagonists in films like Pratighatana, Gaayam, and Teerpu.


Comedy and Character Roles: Kota balanced his villainous image with remarkable comic timing in films like Aha Naa Pellanta!, Money, and Hello Brother.

In addition to acting, Kota briefly entered politics. He served as the MLA for Vijayawada East from 1999 to 2004 as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Despite his political stint, he always remained close to cinema.

Kota was married to Rukmini Rao, and the couple had three children:


Kota Venkata Anjaneya Prasad (Son): An aspiring actor who appeared alongside his father in Gaayam 2 and Siddham. Tragically, Prasad passed away in a road accident in 2010.


Two daughters: Pallavi and Pavani, who live private lives away from the spotlight.

Kota Srinivasa Rao had been battling age-related health issues in recent years. He passed away peacefully at his residence in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, on July 13, 2025, just three days after his 83rd birthday.


His last on-screen appearance was in the film Suvarna Sundari (2023), capping off an extraordinary cinematic journey.
